A health assessment includes an assessment of a patient’s health, including their physical, psychological and social wellbeing.

It also assesses what preventive health care, education and other assistance can be offered to the patient to improve their health and wellbeing.

The aim of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) Health Assessment is to help ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people receive primary health care matched to their needs, by encouraging early detection, diagnosis and intervention for common and treatable conditions that cause morbidity and early mortality.

As part of a health assessment, a nurse will work with your GP to develop a simple strategy to maximise your health.

They will identify any services that would benefit your health and wellbeing and the actions you should take. Any health plan will be developed in collaboration with the patient, or parent/carer, and documented in the written report which you will be given a copy of.

An ATSI Health Assessment involves a 40 minute appointment with one of our skilled nurses followed by a 10 minute appointment with your usual GP.

Please contact our friendly reception staff for assistance in booking an appointment.
