Practice of the Year

Congratulations to the Glenrock Country Practice in Wagga Wagga, which has been awarded the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) NSW & ACT General Practice of the Year Award for 2007.

The General Practice of the Year Award recognises the outstanding work of Australian general practices: the range of services and standard of facilities offered to patients, and the local community, and the professional environment enjoyed by practice members and staff.

The award was presented at the RACGP 50th Annual Scientific Convention in Sydney, RACGP President Dr Vasantha Preetham congratulated the doctors and staff of the Glenrock Country Practice and thanked them for their outstanding service to both the general practice profession and their local community.

“We are always proud to celebrate the achievements of our profession. The Glenrock Country Practice is leading the way with  needs, it's excellent team management of the impact of chronic disease on patients’ lives, high tech, state of the art facilities, and investment in the future of our profession through training the next generation of doctors” said Dr Di O’Halloran, Chair, RACGP New South Wales & Australian Capital Territory Faculty.

Practice highlights include:

  • A great primary health care team comprising six full time and one part time general practitioner, four registered nurses, a midwife, an accredited dietician, a registered podiatrist, an exercise physiologist, a visiting clinical psychologist and onsite pathology collection.
  • Full 24-hour care as a partner in the Wagga GP After Hours Service, with a range of home care services.
  • Diabetes, fitness, lifestyle, asthma and home care programs, as well as patient information nights, educational videos and a range of services to support new parents and their babies.
  • Excellent training for general practice registrars and a key role in supporting Coast City Country Training, the local general practice regional training provider.
  • A mentoring program for medical students from the University of News South Wales who complete a six-month placement, gaining "hands on" general practice experience.
  • Training and support for two overseas trained doctors, boosting the medical care available to residents of Wagga Wagga.
  • A private waiting room next to the front reception area for patients in distress or patients with potentially contagious conditions.
  • Excellent internal design featuring six consulting rooms nurses' room and treatment room for surgical procedures, echocardiogram, spirometry, audiometry and digital dermascopy - all arranged around a central office.

The RACGP congratulates the Glenrock Country Practice for its outstanding service to the Wagga Wagga community.
